Iran Says 40% of Damaged South Pars Gas Capacity Restored

About 40% of the natural-gas production capacity at Iran's South Pars field that was damaged during the conflict with the United States and Israel has been restored, Iranian Deputy Oil Minister Ahmed Zeraatkar was quoted as saying by Iran's Fars news agency, CBS News reported.

South Pars is the Iranian portion of the world's largest offshore natural-gas field, which Iran shares with Qatar across the Persian Gulf. Qatar's portion of the field is known as the North Field.

The field has become a significant focus of the conflict because attacks on energy infrastructure have threatened production and raised concerns about the wider impact on regional gas supplies.

Israel launched attacks on South Pars infrastructure several weeks after the conflict began.

President Donald Trump subsequently criticized the strikes, saying the United States had not been warned in advance and indicating that he did not want further attacks on the gas field, Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported.

The restoration of damaged production capacity could help Iran recover some of its domestic gas supply, although the full impact will depend on the extent of the remaining damage and the pace of repairs.
