Israel and Lebanon have agreed to extend their existing ceasefire by 45 days following two days of talks in Washington, according to the U.S. State Department.

State Department spokesperson Tommy Pigott announced the extension, according to a CBS News report by Frank Andrews.
Lebanon’s delegation to the U.S.-facilitated peace talks said the ceasefire extension, along with the establishment of a U.S.-facilitated security track, could help pave the way toward “lasting stability.”
“The Lebanese delegation welcomes today’s outcome,” the delegation said in a statement shared by the Lebanese presidency, adding that the extension provides “critical breathing space for our citizens.”
Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam also called for Arab and international support for Beirut’s negotiations with Israel, saying Lebanon had endured enough “reckless” wars driven by outside interests.
Speaking at an NGO dinner shortly after the talks concluded, Salam said he hoped to mobilize diplomatic backing to strengthen Lebanon’s negotiating position.
