In retaliation, Iran launched approximately 100 drones toward Israel, which the Israeli military said had been mostly intercepted.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said shelter warnings were lifted “against the backdrop of an IDF assessment that we are temporarily in control of the drones,” according to Haaretz.
Local outlets ynet and N12 reported that “all” drones had been shot down, though the IDF has only confirmed that “many” were intercepted. Media reports in Iran, echoed by Reuters and the Associated Press (AP), said the commander of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards was among those killed in the Israeli operation.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio clarified that the United States had no involvement in the Israeli attack.
Iran has vowed severe retaliation. The strikes mark a major escalation in regional tensions and come amid continued international concern over Iran’s nuclear program.
