Support for Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s Cabinet fell to 50%, according to a recent nationwide Mainichi Shimbun poll.

This represents a three-point decline from the previous survey and marks the third consecutive monthly drop. It is also the lowest level recorded since the Cabinet was formed in October 2025.
The disapproval rate remained unchanged at 33%.
Cabinet approval had previously remained above 65% through the end of 2025 but has declined steadily since January 2026, despite a brief rebound after the House of Representatives election.
Support varied significantly by demographic group, with stronger approval among men (56%) than women (48%). Younger voters showed lower support, with approval at 45% among those aged 18–29 and 53% among those in their 30s.
A majority of respondents (63%) supported the government’s proposed supplementary budget of 3 trillion yen ($18.9 billion) aimed at preparing for prolonged instability in the Middle East.
