Sanae Takaichi has been named among this year’s most influential people by Time magazine, marking a milestone moment in Japanese politics.

Takaichi, Japan’s first female prime minister, was recognized alongside global figures including Olympic champion Alysa Liu, designer Ralph Lauren, and Sundar Pichai.
Yuriko Koike described Takaichi’s rise as a “transformative and historic moment,” noting that it broke long-standing gender barriers in Japanese leadership.
Koike added that the achievement represents progress toward a more inclusive political landscape in Japan.
