A US judge ruled that President Donald Trump cannot proceed with his planned $400 million White House ballroom without congressional approval, temporarily halting the project, Reuters reported.

US District Judge Richard Leon granted a preliminary injunction requested by the National Trust for Historic Preservation, which argued that Trump exceeded his authority by demolishing the historic East Wing and initiating construction.
Leon’s ruling pauses the 90,000-square-foot project while the legal challenge proceeds. He also granted a 14-day stay to allow the administration to appeal the decision.
