Kennedy Center Warns of Possible Fiscal Collapse Amid Trump Naming Dispute

Kennedy Center officials have warned that the institution could face “certain fiscal collapse” within weeks unless President Donald Trump’s name is restored to the building, according to documents included in a court filing and reported by CNN.

The Kennedy Center is facing severe financial difficulties amid a legal dispute over President Donald Trump’s name on the performing arts center.

The documents included draft resolutions concerning the possible closure of the Kennedy Center and proposals to restore Trump’s name to the building.

Officials warned that the institution could soon be unable to meet payroll obligations and routine maintenance contracts. The documents were originally obtained and reported by The New York Times and The Washington Post.

One draft resolution said Trump had offered to help raise funds needed to prevent the center from bankruptcy and suggested that he would not be able to lead such a fundraising effort unless his name appeared on the building.

The proposals came amid an ongoing legal dispute over the board’s efforts to add Trump’s name to the Kennedy Center.

A federal judge subsequently blocked the latest effort to restore his name to the building, ruling that the board could not circumvent an earlier court ruling and federal law governing the national cultural center.

CNN reported that the Kennedy Center board later voted to close the main building immediately, following the court ruling.
