MacKenzie Scott Accounted for One-Third of America's $19.2 Billion in Megagifts in 2025

Despite keeping much of her philanthropy out of the spotlight, MacKenzie Scott remained one of America's biggest donors in 2025.

Of the $19.2 billion in megagifts made during the year, Scott accounted for roughly one-third, according to data provided to Fortune by Giving USA and the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, Sydney Lake reported.

Scott, the former wife of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, donated about $7 billion in 2025, bringing her cumulative giving over five years to $26.2 billion.

Her donations have supported thousands of organizations focusing on housing, diversity, equity and inclusion, disaster recovery, and other causes.

Other major donors in 2025 included Michael Bloomberg ($4.3 billion), Bill Gates ($3.7 billion), Warren Buffett ($1.34 billion), and Susan and Michael Dell (nearly $1 billion).

According to Giving USA and the Lilly Family School of Philanthropy, charitable giving in the United States totaled $617.2 billion in 2025, representing a 5.7% increase from the previous year.

"It was a positive year for charitable giving, with virtually all categories of recipient organizations achieving solid or better growth at the aggregate level," said Gabe Cooper, vice chair of the Giving USA Foundation and founder and CEO of Virtuous.
