The statement from Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's office cited Israel's disregard for humanitarian principles and violation of international law through ongoing cruelty against the Palestinian people as the reason for the sanction.
As a Muslim-majority country, Malaysia has a history of advocating for Palestinian rights. Alongside nearby nations such as Indonesia, Brunei, Bangladesh, the Maldives, and Pakistan, Malaysia does not recognize Israel.
