Global financial markets are looking for fresh economic catalysts before the traditional August trading slowdown, Martin Baccardax reported for Barron's Daily.

Stocks have traded largely sideways in recent weeks, with the S&P 500 remaining in a narrow range since mid-May while the Nasdaq Composite has fallen about 7.4% since the start of the second quarter.
Investors are now awaiting several key economic releases, including an advance estimate of second-quarter U.S. gross domestic product (GDP), employment data, a closely watched inflation report, and interest rate decisions from the Bank of England and the Bank of Japan.
Meanwhile, muted gains across international markets suggest investor optimism may soon face a crucial test as policymakers and corporate earnings shape the market's direction heading into August.
