McLaren has unveiled the McL 6GT, a limited-production sports car that brings back a manual transmission, hydraulic steering and a V8 engine.

The model was revealed during Monterey Car Week and marks McLaren's first manual-transmission road car since the legendary F1 debuted in 1992.

McLaren Automotive CEO Nick Collins said the company expects to build about 500 examples, with pricing around $1.5 million. The company said it has already received strong interest in the car.

The project draws inspiration from the original M6GT, a road-going sports-car project developed by McLaren founder Bruce McLaren in the late 1960s.

That project was abandoned following Bruce McLaren's death in 1970. The new McL 6GT is intended as a modern interpretation of that unfinished vision.

The McL 6GT combines a carbon-fiber structure with a mid-mounted V8, six-speed manual transmission and hydraulic steering. The production version is expected to arrive in 2028, rather than immediately following the 2026 reveal.
