The award recognizes Meralco’s innovative use of data analytics and management to revolutionize its operations and enhance customer service.

The Cloudera Data Impact Awards, an annual event, celebrates the most innovative organizations using the Cloudera platform, with categories ranging from AI Acceleration to Leadership & Transformation.

Meralco’s win highlights its successful integration of data-driven strategies to transform its operations and set a new standard for the energy industry.

“This award recognizes Meralco's commitment to innovation through data and technology,” said Ronnie L. Aperocho, Meralco Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.

“Our data platform is crucial in enhancing decision-making and guiding improvements in customer service, reinforcing Meralco's position as an industry leader ready to shape the future of energy in the Philippines.”

Selected from a pool of over 50 contenders across various industries in the Asia Pacific region, including banking, telecommunications, and manufacturing, Meralco emerged as a frontrunner, besting six other international nominees.

This recognition underscores Meralco’s pivotal role in leveraging data to drive tangible improvements and its commitment to innovation.

“Data is the backbone of our digital transformation, influencing every aspect of our operations,” said Rocky D. Bacani, Meralco First Vice President and Head of Information, Communication, Technology, and Transformation.

“Our people deeply understand the value of data and leverage insights to drive meaningful changes that benefit millions of customers.”

Central to Meralco’s data-driven approach is the Meralco Data Platform (MDP). This platform integrates data from across Meralco’s operations, including billing systems and online channels, enabling accurate analytics and streamlined processes.

The MDP utilizes Cloudera's state-of-the-art data management and analytics solutions to handle big data processing and sophisticated data science workloads efficiently. Through the MDP, Meralco has achieved significant improvements in both customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.

One notable initiative is the Service Application Dashboard, which has reduced processing time by 19%, resulting in faster energization for customers.

Additionally, the Distribution Transformer Predictive Analytics initiative allows Meralco to proactively identify overloaded transformers and conduct targeted inspections, preventing outages for around half a million households and resulting in substantial savings.

Furthermore, Meralco's partnership with Kayana Solutions (DigiCo) to develop a Machine Learning Model for customer segmentation demonstrates its commitment to personalized customer service.

This model enables Meralco to understand its customers better and tailor its services to meet individual needs.
