Mexico will export 1 million barrels of oil to Japan, President Claudia Sheinbaum said, following a request from Tokyo amid uncertainty over energy supplies linked to tensions in the Middle East, Kyodo News reported.

Sheinbaum did not specify a timeline for the exports.
The decision followed a phone call with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, during which both leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation to ensure stable energy supplies.
Rising geopolitical tensions have prompted Japan, which relies heavily on Middle Eastern oil imports, to explore alternative suppliers and diversify shipping routes.
In addition to oil, Mexico also has significant mineral resources, including copper and zinc.
