Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (MIESCOR), the engineering and infrastructure arm of Manila Electric Company (MERALCO), has announced a groundbreaking development in the Philippine telecommunications industry.
Towering Partnership for Progress: MIESCOR Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC) and PhilTower celebrate the successful formation of one of the largest independent tower companies in the Philippines.
MIESCOR’s subsidiary, MIESCOR Infrastructure Development Corporation (MIDC), and Phil-Tower Consortium Inc. (PhilTower) have completed a transaction to establish one of the largest independent tower companies in the country.
This strategic move is expected to significantly enhance the nation's telecommunications infrastructure and digital connectivity.
Formed as a joint venture between MIESCOR and Stonepeak in 2022, MIDC has now partnered with PhilTower to create a telecommunications powerhouse. The new entity is backed by a consortium of prominent investors, including Macquarie Capital and Global Network Inc.
This collaboration aims to accelerate the rollout of wireless technologies for major Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) such as Globe Telecom, Smart Communications, and DITO Telecommunity.
MIESCOR President and CEO, Richard O. Ochava, emphasized the significance of this partnership in supporting the Philippines' digital transformation.
He noted that the joint venture would "create a new standard for infrastructure efficiency and service excellence," helping to bridge the digital divide, particularly in underserved areas.
Ochava highlighted that this initiative aligns with the country's broader socio-economic goals by promoting digital inclusion and economic empowerment.
This new tower company will play a critical role in addressing the Philippines' need for more cell towers. With less than 20,000 towers serving a population of over 100 million, the country has one of the lowest tower densities globally.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) estimates that an additional 50,000 towers are required to meet the growing demand for voice and data traffic.
MIESCOR, through its Telecommunications Business Unit, provides full turnkey and semi-turnkey services to telecom operators, including tower site construction, maintenance, and wireless system solutions.
The company remains committed to supporting the partnership as it connects more Filipinos to the future of mobile broadband technologies.
With this strategic alliance, MIESCOR and PhilTower are set to propel the Philippines toward a more connected and technologically advanced future, playing a vital role in improving network infrastructure and expanding access to mobile broadband services across the nation.
