More than 340 US news organizations have restricted access by the Internet Archive to preserve their journalism, amid concerns that artificial intelligence companies could use archived content for training purposes, Nieman Lab reported.

Major publishers—including The New York Times, The Guardian, and USA Today—have reportedly blocked the nonprofit’s web crawlers.
Additional newspaper groups, including McClatchy, Advance Local, and Tribune Publishing, have also imposed restrictions.
Researchers and journalists have expressed concern that blocking the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine may weaken long-term preservation of local news reporting and historical records.
