Public confidence in President Donald Trump’s economic leadership appears to be eroding.

Only about 4 in 10 Americans approve of Trump’s approach to the economy and trade negotiations—a figure largely unchanged since March.
A new poll has indicated widespread concern that his sweeping and inconsistently applied tariffs could drive up prices and push the U.S. toward recession, Josh Boak and Amelia Thomson-DeVeaux of the Associated Press (AP) reported.
According to the AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, about half of U.S. adults believe Trump’s trade policies will raise prices “a lot,” while another 30% think they will increase prices “somewhat.”
Roughly half also said they are “extremely” or “very” concerned about a potential recession in the coming months.
While skepticism around tariffs is growing, it hasn't translated into outright rejection of Trump’s economic strategy. Still, the polling suggests that his economic handling is becoming a potential liability just three months into his second term.
