California Governor Gavin Newsom is suing Fox News, accusing the network of defamation over its coverage of a phone call he allegedly had with President Trump this month, Laurell Rosenhall reported for The New York Times.

The lawsuit, filed in Delaware—where Fox News is incorporated—seeks damages of at least $787.5 million and a court order barring the network from broadcasting or posting segments that falsely claim Newsom lied about the call.

Newsom has taken an increasingly combative stance toward the president since Trump sent troops to Los Angeles amid his administration’s immigration crackdown.

“If Fox News wants to lie to the American people on Donald Trump’s behalf, it should face consequences—just like it did in the Dominion case,” Newsom told Politico recently.

“Until Fox is willing to be truthful, I will keep fighting against their propaganda machine.”

In the suit, Newsom alleged that Fox News host Jesse Watters knowingly lied about a phone call between Newsom and Trump—a call Newsom says never happened, though Trump claims it did. Alexander Willis also reported on the story for Raw Story.
