Nissan is recalling more than 480,000 vehicles in the U.S. and Canada due to potential manufacturing defects that could lead to engine failure, the Associated Press (AP) reported.

The recall includes certain 2021–2024 Nissan Rogue models and 2019–2020 Altimas, as well as 2019–2022 Infiniti QX50s and 2022 Infiniti QX55s from the automaker’s luxury brand.

These vehicles are equipped with specific “VC-Turbo” engines that may have defects in their bearings, according to documents from the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The defect could result in engine damage and, in some cases, engine failure while driving—raising the risk of a crash.

Engine bearing failures “are not typically instantaneous and tend to progress over time,” the NHTSA said in its recall report. Drivers may notice early warning signs such as unusual noises or malfunction indicator lights.

In the U.S., 443,899 vehicles are covered by the recall, according to NHTSA records. In Canada, 37,837 vehicles are affected, Nissan confirmed to AP.
