Chinese President Xi Jinping has broken his silence on the escalating trade war with the United States, warning that there will be “no winners.”

The trade war shows no signs of easing, and its broader impact on the global economy remains to be seen.
His remarks come amid intensifying criticism of President Donald Trump’s tariff policies, Sonal Nain reported for Newsweek.
In a strongly worded statement, Xi said China is “not afraid” of the conflict. Shortly after his remarks, Beijing announced reciprocal tariffs of 125% on all U.S. imports. “There are no winners in a trade war, and going against the world will only lead to self-isolation,” Xi said, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
“For over 70 years, China’s development has relied on self-reliance and hard work—not on handouts from others. We are not afraid of unjust suppression.”
In retaliation, China also announced it would reduce the number of U.S. films it allows to be imported—a move expected to hit Hollywood revenues. The trade war shows no signs of easing, and its broader impact on the global economy remains to be seen.
