President Donald Trump’s hopes of receiving a Nobel Peace Prize were dashed within hours of him saying it would be an “honor” to receive one, Tom Latchem reported for The Daily Beast.

Trump, 79, is scheduled to host Nobel laureate María Corina Machado in the Oval Office next week amid a public and behind-the-scenes lobbying campaign aimed at having Machado offer her prize to Trump.

Donating the prize was reportedly intended to appease Trump and encourage him to endorse Machado as a replacement for deposed Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro.

Speaking to Fox News host Sean Hannity, Trump appeared enthusiastic about the idea.

“I’ve heard that she wants to do that. That would be a great honor,” Trump said, before launching into his familiar grievances about not having received the award. “I’ve stopped eight wars,” he claimed, calling it “a very big embarrassment” that he had not won the prize.

“When you put out eight wars, in theory, you should get one for each war.”

Fox News presenter Rachel Campos-Duffy, the wife of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, is reportedly involved in efforts to persuade Machado to offer the prize to Trump, according to journalist Rachael Bade’s Substack.

Within hours, however, the Norwegian Nobel Institute shut down the idea. A spokesperson told The Daily Beast on Friday: “A Nobel Prize can neither be revoked nor transferred to others.

Once the announcement of the laureate(s) has been made, the decision stands for all time.”

The spokesperson added that while recipients may dispose of prize money as they wish, the prize itself cannot be reassigned. The ruling was a blow not only to Trump but also to his supporters who had pushed for Machado to hand over the coveted award.
