The news came after it was revealed that a “small nodule” was detected during a “routine physical exam,” a spokesperson for the former president told ABC News on May 13, T. Michelle Murphy reported for ABC News.
His prostate cancer diagnosis is “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” his office said Sunday.
“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive, which allows for effective management.”
As Biden and his family review treatment options, former President Barack Obama and other political leaders began reaching out to share support for the former U.S. president, saying, “Michelle and I are thinking of the entire Biden family. Nobody has done more to find breakthrough treatments for cancer in all its forms than Joe, and I am certain he will fight this challenge with his trademark resolve and grace. We pray for a fast and full recovery.”
Former Vice President Kamala Harris also posted on X on Sunday, saying she and her husband are keeping President Joe Biden and his family in their prayers.
Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton posted, “I’m thinking of the Bidens as they take on cancer, a disease they’ve done so much to try to spare other families from. Wishing you a speedy, full recovery.”
Former President Bill Clinton also added a note on his own account, saying, “My friend Joe Biden’s always been a fighter. Hillary and I are rooting for him and are keeping him, Jill, and the entire family in our thoughts.”
