Investors sold off companies tied to OpenAI after The Wall Street Journal reported the firm missed internal sales and user targets, Ines Ferré reported for Yahoo Finance.
According to the report, OpenAI fell short of its goal of reaching 1 billion weekly active users for ChatGPT by year-end and missed revenue targets. Meanwhile, Google’s Gemini AI has gained traction, increasing competition.
CEO Sam Altman has pushed aggressive investment in computing infrastructure, raising concerns about rising costs.
The report comes as OpenAI is said to be preparing for a potential public offering. The company recently announced $122 billion in funding commitments at a valuation of $852 billion, up from $730 billion earlier this year.
