Oslo Bans Night-TIme E-Scooter Rentals To Cut Down Injuries

People in Oslo will no longer be able to rent electric scooters between the 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. due to the many accidents that had injured many people, Deutsche Presse-Agentur (dpa) reported.

The city council made the decision that is due to apply from early September, Norwegian news agency NTB and the broadcaster NRK reported on the same day.

Doctors at Oslo University Hospital worked out that the ban would prevent hundreds of injuries during the summer. Several rental companies had already reached a decision to park electric scooters during weekend nights or to introduce speed limits when it is dark.

Of all the major cities in Europe, Oslo has the highest number of e-scooters per capita, according to NTB data. The number has risen by almost a quarter to around 25,700 over the past three months alone, according to the report.

More than two-thirds of the scooters are set to disappear from the streets again, however, as the overall number is to be reduced to 8,000, according to the decision.
