Pakistan said recently that it would recommend U.S. President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize—an accolade he has long craved—for his role in helping to resolve the recent conflict between India and Pakistan, Saeed Shah and Aftab Ahmed reported for Reuters.

Analysts in Pakistan said the move to flatter Trump might persuade him to reconsider joining Israel in striking Iran’s nuclear facilities. Pakistan has condemned Israel’s actions as a violation of international law and a threat to regional stability.
In May, a surprise ceasefire announcement by Trump brought an abrupt end to a four-day conflict between nuclear-armed foes India and Pakistan.
Trump has since bragged that he averted a nuclear war, saved millions of lives, and grumbled that he received no credit for it.
India, however, insists the ceasefire was a bilateral agreement between its military and Pakistan’s. “Israel’s sugar daddy in Gaza and cheerleader of its attacks on Iran isn’t a candidate for any prize,” said Talat Hussain, a prominent Pakistani television political talk show host, in a post on X.
“And what if he starts to kiss Modi on both cheeks again after a few months?”
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he “clearly conveyed” to Trump that he played no role in the ceasefire, according to Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
Modi maintains the ceasefire was achieved through direct talks with Pakistan, Katie Hawkinson reported for The Independent.
Trump, frustrated that his predecessor Barack Obama received the award in 2009, has long felt overlooked. Last year, Trump lamented that if he “were named Obama,” he would’ve “had the Nobel Prize given to me in 10 seconds.”
John Bolton, Trump’s former national security adviser and now a vocal critic, once told The New York Times that “the center of his public life is the greater glory of Donald Trump, and the Nobel Peace Prize would be a nice thing to hang on the wall.”
