The measures, spearheaded by Premier Giorgia Meloni’s far-right government, passed the Upper House with 108 votes in favor and 63 against.

The center-left opposition strongly criticized the budget, arguing that it fell short of Meloni’s promises to significantly reduce taxes for most Italians and improve employment rates.

Meloni defended the budget, emphasizing its “balanced approach” and commitment to supporting low- and middle-income earners, families with children, and the country’s struggling healthcare system.

“We utilized the limited resources available to strengthen key measures approved in previous years, making them permanent and expanding their reach to benefit a broader audience,” the premier said following the budget’s final approval.
