Pentagon Updates Iran War Casualty Figures as Questions Persist Over Data Glitches

The Pentagon has updated its casualty database for the US-Iran conflict, increasing the reported number of wounded service members after resolving what officials described as temporary data disruptions.

According to Davis Winkie of CNN, the Defense Casualty Analysis System (DCAS) recorded more than 140 additional wounded personnel and restored four soldiers previously omitted from the list of fatalities.

Combined with updated figures for Operation Epic Fury, the revised totals show 18 US service members killed and 624 wounded since military operations against Iran began on Feb. 28.

The Pentagon also introduced a new reporting category titled "Overseas Operations," covering personnel killed and wounded beginning July 7.

The casualty figures drew scrutiny after totals on the DCAS website unexpectedly declined while fighting continued. Twelve Democratic members of the Senate Armed Services Committee later requested an explanation from Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth.

Acting Pentagon Press Secretary Joel Valdez said the discrepancies resulted from temporary technical issues affecting the DCAS website. CNN reported observing fluctuations in casualty figures while monitoring the database during the previous week.
