Mr. Rafael Hidalgo, Senior Vice President for Business Development of SteelAsia, revealed that the company has made six shipments to Canada worth PHP1.5 billion since 2023.

He said this amount represents their export of 41,148 tons of high-strength infrastructure steel to Canada for its subway system.

Mr. Benjamin Yao, Chairman and CEO of SteelAsia, said that their partnership with the international infrastructure firm Acciona for constructing the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway opened the opportunity for export to the North American country.

“This is all because we supplied the bar for the Cordova Bridge, and the contractor was Acciona. And Acciona is also the contractor for the Vancouver, Canada, South Coast region,” Yao noted.

“So, the relationship; they’re happy with our service,” he added.

He stated that SteelAsia has been operating six production lines across the country, located in Bulacan, Cebu, and Davao, with a total steelmaking capacity of 500,000 tons annually.

The company now has its latest facility, the Compostela plant in Cebu, which has a production capacity of 1 million tons annually. Yao described their Compostela plant as SteelAsia’s largest and most modern steelmaking facility, not only in the country but also in the entire region.
