DBCC Chairperson and Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Secretary Amenah Pangandaman stated that the proposed budget aligns with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023-2028, aiming to enhance individual and family capabilities, transform production sectors, and foster an enabling environment.
The budget represents 22% of the gross domestic product (GDP) and is 10.1% higher than the current year's budget of PHP5.768 trillion.
The DBCC maintained its economic growth targets, expecting the economy to grow by 6-7% in 2024 and 6.5-7.5% in 2025, with a projected GDP growth of 6.5-8% from 2026 to 2028.
Pangandaman emphasized the government's commitment to growth-enhancing strategies, such as addressing inflation, promoting digitalization, accelerating infrastructure development, expanding workforce skills, and strengthening supply chain linkages.
She stressed that this growth trajectory positions the Philippines to become an upper-middle-income economy within two years and reduce the poverty rate to single-digit levels by 2028.
