PITX Helps Stabilize Energy Grid Amid Luzon Power Crisis

The Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange (PITX), the premier gateway to the South, played a crucial role in alleviating the energy crisis that hit Luzon on April 16, by reducing its energy consumption during a red alert on the Luzon Grid.

PITX is privately operated by MWM Terminals, Inc., a subsidiary of Megawide Construction Corp., under a 35-year Build-Transfer-Operate contract with the Department of Transportation (DOTr).

PITX's proactive approach in de-loading electricity consumption during critical times helped stabilize the grid and provided relief for 9,019 households, ensuring they were not affected by power interruptions.

The red alert status, declared due to a combination of high energy demand and limited power generation, threatened the stability and reliability of the electricity supply across the Luzon region.

PITX responded quickly by reducing its energy use between 2 PM and 4 PM and again from 6 PM to 9 PM, achieving a total de-loaded energy consumption of 13,159.02 kWh.

This initiative by PITX helped ease the strain on the grid, allowing for a more stable energy supply during peak hours.

"PITX is deeply invested in the well-being of the communities we operate in. Our participation in de-loading energy consumption during the red alert underscores our dedication to supporting sustainable practices and ensuring the stability of essential services for all," remarked Jason Salvador, Head of Corporate Affairs and Government Relations.

This energy de-loading initiative aligns with PITX's broader mission of promoting sustainable development and resilience within the communities it serves. By contributing to energy conservation efforts, PITX supports the United Nations' Social Development Goal 7, which focuses on affordable and clean energy for all.

PITX's strategic actions demonstrate a dedication to corporate social responsibility, reinforcing its role as a community-focused organization.

Through measures like these, PITX aims to continue fostering positive change and creating lasting impacts that benefit not only its direct stakeholders but also the wider population.

PITX is the country's first-ever landport, serving as a multimodal transport hub in the Philippines. It is designed to enhance the commuting experience for Filipinos by facilitating seamless interconnectivity between various modes of public transportation.
