PSE FLIRTS WITH RECORD HIGH
The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today flirted with a new high and stopped short of a hair breadth as investors jumped into the market bandwagon pushing the day's performance at 7,299.88 points, up by 170.27 points or 2.39 percent.
Trading value hit a high of P11.05 billion with the top 20 stocks accounting for P7.48 billion. Only three of the big-traded posted losses that include Ayala Corp Energy, top traded with P1.58 billion as it succumbed to profit taking to close 19 centavos lower to P7.82. The other losers were pH Resorts, down by 11 centavos to P3.40, and ICTSI, which lost 80 centavos to P125.
There were 141 gainers against 74 losers and 48 shares unchanged, with the financials posting the biggest gain of 3.33 percent, powered by Bank of PI, up P4.10 to P87; BDO Unibank, up P2 to P109; and Metrobank, up 2.05 to P49.50.
Dito was the second most active stock with trades of P918 million, as it rose by another 42 centavos to P13.12. Market bellwether SM Investments went up by P16 to P1,050, while market darling MerryMart gained 27 centavos to P7.69.
PLDT and Globe Telecom gained, respectively, by P74 to P1,424 and P20 to P2,020.
SM Prime and Ayala Land went up by P1.30 and 85 centavos, respectively, to end the day at P40.40 and P41.55. GT Capital gained by P39 to P579, while PureGold ended P1.05 higher at P39.95.
