PSE Index Climbs 1.25% as Ayala Land Rally Boosts Investor Confidence

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index climbed to another milestone on Friday, closing at 6,404.11, up 78.96 points, or 1.25%, as improving investor sentiment fueled broad-based buying.

Property and holding firm stocks led the rally, with Ayala Land Inc. (ALI) extending its gains after receiving continued buying support from its parent company, Ayala Corp.


The strong performance encouraged local investors to join the market's buying momentum.



Ayala Corp. disclosed on Friday that it had purchased an additional 6.9 million ALI shares on the open market at an average price of ₱16.715 per share. ALI closed 5.72% higher at ₱17.00.


Sectoral performance was mostly positive. Property led the gains, rising 2.62%, followed by holding firms, services (0.96%), industrials (0.51%), and financials (0.10%).


The mining and oil index was the lone decliner, slipping 0.82%.



Market favorite International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) rose 0.81% to ₱998.00, while Globe Telecom Inc. advanced 2.52% to ₱1,870.00. Market bellwether SM Investments Corp. gained 1.36% to close at ₱508.50.


Among other actively traded issues, Jollibee Foods Corp. climbed 0.60% to ₱149.90, while Century Pacific Food Inc. declined 1.25% to ₱31.60.


The benchmark index opened at 6,328.32, its intraday low, before reaching a session high of 6,416.19.



Total market turnover amounted to ₱6.17 billion, while foreign trades reached ₱5.52 billion, indicating stronger participation from local investors. Foreign buying totaled ₱3.192 billion, while foreign selling reached ₱2.335 billion, resulting in net foreign buying of ₱857 million.


Market breadth remained positive, with 103 gainers, 85 losers, and 52 unchanged issues.
