PSE Index Closes at Intra-Day Low Amid Economic Concerns

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index again closed at its intra-day low, falling 50.01 points, or 0.88 percent, to 5,629.47 points on Thursday as investors remained cautious over economic concerns.

Market favorite International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) declined 2.69 percent to ₱867 on trades amounting to ₱1.9 billion, contributing to another decline in the services sub-index, which fell 2.03 percent for the second consecutive session.
All major sub-indices ended lower. Financials declined 0.52 percent, industrials dropped 0.33 percent, mining and oil fell 1.01 percent, and property slipped 1.07 percent.
Holding firms were nearly unchanged, declining 0.05 percent. Ayala Corp. gained 4.60 percent to ₱523, offsetting the 1.56 percent decline of SM Investments Corp., which closed at ₱492.
The market may test its next support level around 5,700 points as investors assess economic risks, including inflation pressures, peso weakness and slower economic growth, according to market analysts.
Total value turnover reached ₱7.54 billion, while foreign transactions amounted to ₱8.73 billion.
Foreign investors recorded net selling of ₱1.46 billion, with foreign buying at ₱3.63 billion and foreign selling at ₱5.10 billion.
Market breadth remained negative, with 113 declining shares against 71 gainers, while 57 issues were unchanged. Newly listed PNB Holdings Corp. closed at ₱1.20, its listing price.
