PSE Index Drops Below 5,800 Support Level

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index started the week below the 5,800 support level, declining 37.10 points, or 0.64%, to close at 5,788.87 on Monday amid renewed concerns over the economic outlook and global market conditions.

The index traded as high as 5,856.38 during the session and fell to an intraday low of 5,773.96.
The decline came as renewed US-Iran tensions pushed oil prices higher, adding to concerns over inflation and economic growth. Market sentiment was also affected by worries about the Philippine economy, the peso and the outlook for interest rates.
Only the property sub-index posted a gain, edging up 0.05%. Ayala Land rose 1.32% to ₱15.32.
Financials fell 0.92%, industrials declined 1.61%, holding firms dropped 0.98%, services slipped 0.14%, and mining and oil plunged 3.25%.
BDO Unibank declined 0.88% to ₱113, while Bank of the Philippine Islands fell 1.29% to ₱95.50.
Market bellwether SM Investments declined 0.29% to ₱508.50 after reaching an intraday high of ₱513. The PSEi likewise reached its session high of 5,856.38 early in the trading day.
Market favorite International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) gained 0.27% to ₱922.50 on trades worth about ₱1.33 billion.
The stock's gain came despite the broader market decline.
Newly listed PNB Holdings ended unchanged at its ₱1.20 offer price after fluctuating between a high of ₱1.24 and a low of ₱0.70. The company was listed on the PSE on Sept. 25.
Value turnover amounted to ₱5.19 billion, according to PSE data. Market breadth remained negative, with 128 decliners against 51 advancers and 66 unchanged issues.
