PSE Index Falls 1.15% as September Inflation Hits 7.2%

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index declined on Tuesday as investors reacted to the acceleration in inflation, with the headline rate reaching 7.2 percent in September.

The benchmark PSEi fell 66.09 points, or 1.15 percent, to close at 5,677.12, its intraday low.
The decline followed the Philippine Statistics Authority's report that inflation accelerated to 7.2 percent in September from 6.1 percent in August.
The September inflation rate was the fastest since April, when inflation also reached 7.2 percent, according to reports ahead of the official release. All six PSEi sectoral indices declined.
Mining and oil led the losses, falling 2.38 percent, followed by industrial stocks, which dropped 1.81 percent, and property stocks, which declined 1.52 percent.
Services fell 1.24 percent, financials declined 0.56 percent, and holding firms slipped 0.15 percent.
Among actively traded stocks, Apex Mining fell 3.64 percent to ₱16.96, while Ayala Land declined 0.39 percent to ₱15.32. International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) dropped 1.66 percent to ₱890.
SM Investments Corp. gained 0.52 percent to ₱499.60, limiting the decline in the holding-firms sector.
The PSE recorded total value turnover of ₱5.46 billion, with 73 advancers, 120 decliners and 69 unchanged issues. The market remained under pressure as investors weighed the higher inflation reading and broader economic concerns.
