PSE Index Holds Above 6,400 Despite Volatile Trading

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index edged higher on Monday, closing at its intraday low of 6,415.72, up 11.61 points, or 0.18%, as gains in services and mining stocks offset weakness in most other sectors.

The market traded on a roller-coaster path throughout the session, opening at 6,435.12, climbing to an intraday high of 6,478.71, before retreating to finish at its day's low.


The Services and Mining and Oil sub-indices led the market, rising 2.23% and 3.86%, respectively. These gains outweighed declines in the other major sectors. Financials fell 0.39%, Industrials slipped 0.57%, Holding Firms declined 0.82%, and Property dropped 1.46%.



Market favorite International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) traded between ₱1,004 and ₱1,040 before closing 2.91% higher at ₱1,027.


Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) gained 0.51% to close at ₱588.00, after trading within a range of ₱585.00 to ₱604.50.


Apex Mining Co. advanced 4.23% to ₱12.80, after touching an intraday low of ₱12.16 and a high of ₱13.00. Meanwhile, SM Prime Holdings Inc. declined 4.40% to close at ₱18.24, its intraday low, after briefly reaching ₱19.00 earlier in the session.



Total market turnover reached ₱6.68 billion. Foreign investors remained active, accounting for ₱7.65 billion in trades and posting net foreign buying of ₱640 million.

Market breadth remained positive, with 98 gainers, 92 losers, and 77 unchanged issues.
