PSE Index in Slight Slide

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index see-sawed within a narrow 25-point range Tuesday—up by as much as 7 points and then down by the same amount—before closing 5.22 points lower at 6,384.62, a marginal decline of 0.08 percent.

The index came within a point of breaching a milestone level, hitting an intraday high of 6,399.85 before retreating to a low of 6,374.91, as the market lacked any significant economic drivers.


The sub-indices closed mixed. Financials fell by 0.48 percent, Industrials declined by 0.40 percent, and Mining and Oil retreated by 1.45 percent. Meanwhile, Holding Firms rose by 0.27 percent, Services gained 0.32 percent, and Property edged up by 0.17 percent.


Total value turnover stood at ₱5.13 billion. There was net foreign selling of ₱55 million, with foreign buying at ₱2.629 billion and foreign selling at ₱2.685 billion.


Market bellwether SM Investments dropped ₱9 to close at ₱850. Bloomberry Resorts emerged as the most active stock, with ₱331 million in trades, and was also the day's top gainer, surging 13.86 percent or 56 centavos to ₱4.60.



There were 90 gainers, 106 losers, and 56 unchanged issues.


Among the gainers were JG Summit, EastWest, Ayala Land, Alliance Global, PNB, Aboitiz Power, Union Bank, PSE, Ferronoux, Manila Water, Century Food, Synergy Grid, SMC Food and Beverage.


Megawide, Ayala Corp., Aboitiz Equity, Anscor, Cosco Capital, DMC Holdings, GT Capital, Cebu Landmasters, DoubleDragon, Filinvest Land, Globe Telecom, PLDT, Belle Corp., Wilcon Depot, PH Resorts, and Nickel Asia were also in the green.


Among the losers were BDO Unibank, SM Prime, ICTSI, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Metrobank, First Gen, Meralco, Petron, Shell Pilipinas, Figaro Coffee, Universal Robina, CEMEX Holdings, and Abacore.



LT Group, San Miguel, AREIT REIT, MREIT REIT, ABS-CBN, GMA-7, Converge, DITO, Robinsons Retail, MacroAsia, Cebu Air, Puregold, Apex Mining, Atlas Mining, Philex Mining, and OceanaGold also dropped.


Unchanged issues included Alternergy, Citicore REIT, Semirara Mining, SPNEC, Ginebra, Roxas and Co., Integrated Micro, Century Property, Megaworld, Robinsons Land, and PhilWeb.
