PSE Index Recovers

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) on Wednesday recovered lost ground after a late buying spree in the final trading hour, closing at its highest level of 6,375.35 points.

This came after the index had earlier declined, nearly collapsing to a low of 6,315.04 points.
The Financials sector rose by 1.12 percent, while Holding Firms gained 1.34 percent, buoyed by the rise in market bellwether SM Investments. The Services sector increased by 0.13 percent, and Mining and Oil surged by a hefty 4.65 percent.
Meanwhile, Property declined by 0.60 percent and Industrials slipped by 0.08 percent.
Value turnover was above average at ₱7.63 billion. Total foreign trades amounted to ₱9.7 billion, with net foreign selling of ₱287.3 million. This was based on foreign buying of ₱4.756 billion and foreign selling of ₱5.043 billion.
There were 107 gainers, 81 losers, and 52 unchanged shares. ICTSI was the most actively traded stock, with ₱918 million worth of trades, rising by ₱0.20 to ₱400.20. It was followed by Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), with ₱758 million in trades, gaining 4.27 percent to close at ₱136.70.
Among the losers were Universal Robina, Security Bank, SM Prime, Metrobank, China Bank, Union Bank, Manila Water, Ginebra, Max’s Restaurant, Monde Nissin, Roxas and Co., First Gen, PSE, and GMA-7.
Globe Telecom, PLDT, Cebu Air, SSI Group, Philippine Seven, OceanaGold, Aboitiz Equity, Anscor, JG Summit, Victorias, Megawide, Century Properties, Citicore REIT, and Alternergy were also in the red.
Gainers included DigiPlus, PhilWeb, Meralco, D&L Industries, Jollibee Foods, Vitarich, CEMEX Holdings, GT Capital, LT Group, Aboitiz Power, PNB, Apex Mining, Lepanto B, Manila Mining B, and MacroAsia.
Araneta Properties, Citicore RE, Emperador, Megaworld, DMCI Holdings, Ayala Corp., Belle Corp., Bloomberry, Puregold, ACEN Corp., Philex Mining, SPNEC, Atlas Mining, Petron, and Semirara Mining also ended the day up.
Unchanged stocks included Ayala Land, Basic Energy, Topline, Keepers Holdings, Cosco Capital, DITO CME, MRC Allied, and Philodrill.
