PSE Index Recovers Slightly as Ghost Month Caution Persists

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index recovered slightly on Friday, closing at 6,297.30 points, up 9.05 points, or 0.14 percent.

The index had risen to an intraday high of 6,317.94 points before blue-chip and mining stocks reversed course, showing signs of continued caution during the ghost month.
Market bellwether SM Investments reached an intraday high of ₱610.50 but closed 1.64 percent lower at ₱600. Meralco declined 0.33 percent to ₱490 after reaching a high of ₱493.80.
ACEN also fell 1.35 percent to ₱2.93 after trading as high as ₱2.99. Investors also took profits in mining shares.
Apex Mining climbed to ₱14.52 before retreating and ending the session at ₱14.14, down 3.81 percent. Philex Mining rose 1.96 percent to ₱10 after reaching an intraday high of ₱10.16.
Services, led by market favorite ICTSI, gained 1.19 percent, while property was the other advancing sub-index, with Ayala Land and SM Prime posting gains. Foreign investors were relatively inactive, with foreign trades accounting for only ₱3.975 billion of the ₱5.19 billion total value turnover.
Market breadth remained positive, with 113 gainers, 92 losers and 52 unchanged issues.
Several second-liners also advanced, including semiconductor-related companies Ionics and Xurpas, as well as Megawide.
