Market heavyweight International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) climbed 0.74 percent to ₱820.50, with reported trades worth ₱3.3 billion. The stock’s trading value accounted for nearly half of the market’s total turnover of approximately ₱6.99 billion.

The services sub-index advanced 0.51 percent, while investors also picked up shares of major banks and other companies following recent market declines.

The buying was characterized as a technical rebound, as investors sought bargains amid concerns over the country’s economic challenges.

However, the claim that the peso had fallen beyond ₱63 to the US dollar requires verification against the exchange rate for the specific trading date.

BDO Unibank rose 1.34 percent to ₱113.50, Bank of the Philippine Islands gained 2.34 percent to ₱96.40, and Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co. (Metrobank) advanced 0.25 percent to ₱60.90.

Four of the PSE’s six sectoral indices finished higher. Financials gained 1.28 percent, property rose 1.89 percent, and holding firms advanced 0.40 percent.

Industrial stocks declined 0.30 percent, while mining and oil fell 2.47 percent.

Foreign transactions totaled approximately ₱9.12 billion, based on the reported buying and selling figures, with foreign buying at ₱4.634 billion and selling at ₱4.493 billion. This resulted in net foreign buying of ₱141 million.

Market breadth was nearly even, with 91 stocks advancing, 89 declining and 66 remaining unchanged.
