PSE Index Sinks On Profit-Taking

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index fell below a key milestone today due to profit-taking, with all sub-indices ending in the red.

Foreign investors were net sellers, dragging the index down to 6,347.67 points— a decline of 58.46 points or 0.91 percent.
Opening lower than its Monday close, the index hit a high of 6,413.18 points in the opening minutes before cascading to its low, as investors rushed to lock in gains. Market bellwether SM Investments reached a high of P878.50 and a low of P865 before climbing back to P875, closing unchanged.
Gaming stocks Bloomberry and DigiPlus started higher but hit lows in the closing minutes.
Bloomberry recorded a high of P6.53 and a low of P5.68, closing at P5.69—down 23 centavos on trades worth P1.71 billion—emerging as the top-traded stock. DigiPlus closed P3.80 lower at P61.10, after hitting a high of P65.10.
Financials was the top loser, down 1.41 percent, followed by Property, which declined by 1.28 percent. Other losing sectors included Industrials (-0.31 percent), Holding Firms (-0.65 percent), and Mining and Oil (-1.03 percent).
Value turnover was 50 percent above average at P9.38 billion, with decliners outnumbering gainers nearly 2 to 1—128 to 56, with 49 issues unchanged.
There was net foreign selling of P525 million, with total foreign buying at P4.815 billion and foreign selling at P5.341 billion.
Among the gainers were ICTSI, Citystate Savings, Ferronoux, PSE, ACEN Corp., Citicore RE, Manila Water, Universal Robina, Megawide, Steniel, Abacore, DMC Holdings, LT Group, DoubleDragon, GMA-7, Globe Telecom, Cebu Air, Belle Corp., Metro Retail, Robinsons Retail, PhilSeven, SSI Group, Wilcon Depot, and OceanaGold.
On the losing end were BDO Unibank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Ayala Land, SM Prime, Apex Mining, Atlas Mining, Philex Mining, Metrobank, PhilWeb, Dito CME, PLDT, ABS-CBN, and Century Pacific Food.
China Bank, EastWest Bank, PNB, AREIT, Cebu Landmasters, First Gen, MREIT, Semirara Mining, Aboitiz Power, Puregold, Oriental Petroleum, Philodrill, D&L Industries, Topline, Shell Pilipinas also closed the day in the red.
Likewise down were San Miguel Food and Beverage, Jollibee Foods, Ginebra, Meralco, Petron, Keepers, Ayala Corp., Anscor, GT Capital, JG Summit, Citicore REIT, San Miguel, and Megaworld.
Unchanged issues included Sun Life, Synergy Grid, Figaro Coffee, Vitarich, Aboitiz Equity, Alliance Global, Filinvest Land, Nickel Asia, Century Properties, MRC Allied, VistaREIT, and Haus Talk.
