Investor pessimism was reflected in significant losses across the services and industrial sectors.

Market favorite International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) fell 5.69 percent to ₱861.50, while consumer-related stocks also weakened, dragging the sector down by 1.98 percent.

The holding firms sector was the lone gainer, although analysts attributed the increase largely to bargain hunting rather than improved market fundamentals.

Ayala Corp., which had previously suffered significant losses, posted a modest gain of 0.05 percent to close at ₱400.00. Market bellwether SM Investments Corp. also advanced by 0.34 percent.

Foreign investors remained cautious, resulting in net foreign selling of ₱924 million.

Foreign buying reached ₱3.838 billion, while foreign selling totaled ₱4.762 billion. Total foreign trades amounted to ₱8.6 billion, below the day's total value turnover of ₱10.25 billion.

Market observers noted that this was the first time in three months that total foreign trades were lower than overall market turnover.

ICTSI led the decliners, falling 5.69 percent to ₱861.50. Consumer giant Jollibee Foods Corp. also dropped sharply, losing 5.57 percent to ₱122.00 on heavy trading volume worth ₱1.6 billion.

Among the other sectors, financials declined by 0.68 percent, mining and oil fell by 0.68 percent, and property slipped by 0.35 percent.

Ayala Land Inc. dropped another 3.04 percent to ₱14.02, extending losses following its announcement that it would suspend certain luxury residential development projects amid weaker consumer demand and spending restraint.
