PSE Index Slumps as Losers Double Gainers

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index slumped today by 85.02 points, or 1.34 percent, to close at 6,254.36, as losing shares outnumbered gainers by more than two to one.

Only the services sector bucked the trend, posting a modest gain of 0.20 percent.
That lone sectoral gain was courtesy of gaming stock DigiPlus, which surged 21.38 percent to ₱32.65, up ₱5.75, with trades amounting to ₱1.79 billion, making it the day’s most active stock.
Another gaming stock, Bloomberry, briefly gained but closed lower after a sell-down. Both PLDT and Globe Telecom also posted losses.
Financials recorded the biggest drop, falling 2.31 percent as BDO Unibank, Bank of the Philippine Islands, and Metrobank all closed lower. Industrials slipped 0.92 percent, holding firms declined 0.85 percent, mining and oil lost 0.20 percent, and property retreated 1.97 percent.
Decliners numbered 141, more than double the 70 gainers, while 41 issues were unchanged.
Market bellwether SM Investments dropped 0.69 percent to ₱789.50, down ₱5.50. Global port operator ICTSI was the second most active stock with ₱917 million in trades, gaining ₱1 to close at ₱489.
DigiPlus and ICTSI were the only gainers among the top 10 most active stocks.
Total trades reached ₱7.09 billion, with ₱4.9 billion accounted for by foreign investors. Net foreign buying amounted to ₱421 million, with foreign buying of ₱2.699 billion and foreign selling of ₱2.277 billion.
Among the gainers were JG Summit, Nickel Asia, PSE, Shell Pilipinas, Emperador, Filinvest REIT, Filinvest Land, Petron, MREIT, PhilWeb, OceanaGold, ABS-CBN, and EastWest Bank.
Among the losers were Jollibee Foods, Ayala Land, SM Prime, Robinsons Land, RL Commercial REIT, Vista Land, VistaREIT, Apex Mining, Atlas Mining, Philex Mining, Megaworld, ACEN Corp., PNB, Security Bank, Ginebra, Cosco Capital, DMCI Holdings, GT Capital, Cebu Air, Belle Corp., Vitarich, First Gen, Citicore REIT, Union Bank, Universal Robina, Megawide, Puregold, SSI Group, Aboitiz Equity, and Monde Nissin.
Unchanged issues included Semirara Mining, Topline, SPNEC, MRC Allied, D&L Industries, RFM, DITO CME, and AbaCore.
