The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index ended the week higher at 5,700.99 points, gaining 90.60 points, or 1.61 percent, as investors bought shares that had fallen sharply in previous sessions.

The advance was considered a technical rebound, driven by renewed interest in blue-chip stocks following market declines amid concerns over elevated energy prices, peso weakness and inflation.

However, the draft's claim that inflation had exceeded 7 percent needs confirmation against the latest official Philippine inflation data.

The mining and oil sector led the market's advance, rising 2.80 percent. Services gained 2.36 percent, while industrial shares climbed 2.33 percent.

Holding firms rose 0.61 percent despite a 1.44 percent decline in SM Investments Corp., which closed at ₱515.

The property sector advanced 0.79 percent, with Ayala Land Inc., SM Prime Holdings Inc. and Robinsons Land Corp. among the gainers.

International Container Terminal Services Inc. (ICTSI) rose 2.08 percent to ₱859, below its intraday high of ₱891. The stock recorded approximately ₱1.3 billion in trading value, according to the draft.

Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) climbed 5.30 percent to ₱437, while Ayala Corp. advanced 1.70 percent to ₱539. DigiPlus Interactive Corp. gained 12.47 percent to ₱8.21, and Apex Mining Co. Inc. rose 7.72 percent to ₱17.58.

The market's recovery was attributed in the draft to lower crude oil prices and a rebound in the peso from recent lows.

These factors may have supported investor sentiment, but the claimed connection should be confirmed with market reports covering the same trading session.

Despite the advance, analysts reportedly cautioned that the market lacked sustained positive catalysts. Foreign investors recorded net selling of ₱133 million, while foreign transactions totaled ₱6.28 billion.

Overall market turnover reached ₱7.82 billion.

Market breadth was positive, with 120 gainers, 97 losers and 62 unchanged stocks. The index opened at 5,620.99 points and rose during the session as bargain hunters returned to the market.
