PSE Index Up a Bit

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index edged higher on Thursday, rising one level to close at 6,320.67 points, up by 28.58 points or 0.45 percent.

Services stocks saved the day amid a mixed market performance, as gains in ICTSI and telecommunications stocks pushed the sub-index up by a hefty 2.96 percent. ICTSI soared by 4.24 percent to ₱615.
PLDT rose by 1.27 percent to ₱1,279, Globe Telecom gained 0.62 percent to ₱1,620, and Converge firmed up by 1.72 percent to ₱15.40.
Holding firms and property stocks also posted gains of 0.30 percent and 0.28 percent, respectively.
Meanwhile, financials slipped by 1.15 percent, industrials declined by 0.39 percent, and mining and oil dropped by 1.24 percent. BDO Unibank emerged as the most active stock, with ₱905 million in trades, despite falling 4.76 percent to ₱136.20.
Losses in the industrial sector were driven by declines in ACEN Corp., down 0.34 percent; First Gen, down 0.42 percent; and Semirara Mining, which slipped 0.99 percent to ₱30.10.
Market bellwether SM Investments fell 1.50 percent to ₱720, offset partly by gains in Ayala Corp., up 0.93 percent to ₱498, and Ayala Land, which advanced 2.13 percent to ₱498.
The drop in the mining and oil sub-index was due to declines in Apex Mining, down 0.78 percent to ₱12.66; Atlas Mining, down 0.70 percent to ₱7.10; and Philex Mining, which slid 1.17 percent to ₱10.18.
Value turnover amounted to ₱6.2 billion, while foreign trades reached ₱6.3 billion. Net foreign buying stood at ₱56 million, with foreign buying at ₱3.207 billion and selling at ₱3.151 billion.
There were 118 gainers, 94 losers, and 49 unchanged shares, including Aboitiz Power, AREIT REIT, Puregold, RFM, Dito CME, and Citicore REIT.
Among the gainers were SM Prime, Ayala Land, OceanaGold, Bank of the Philippine Islands, Metrobank, Universal Robina, Manila Water, Maynilad, Union Bank, Petron, Axelum, SPNEC, Figaro Coffee, Monde Nissin, and AbaCore.
Among the losers were Jollibee Foods, DigiPlus, Alternergy, ABS-CBN, Security Bank, Agrinurture, DoubleDragon, Citicore REIT, MREIT, Robinsons Land, and Cebu Air.
