PSE INDEX UP MARGINALLY

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today seesawed within a tight 50-point range with investors staying on the sidelines and the second liners getting attention as net foreign selling again played out in quiet trading that saw a marginal 4.47 points or 0.07 percent rise to 6,796.34 points.

Second liners were in investors’ eyes as the market saw the financials, holding firms, and services sub-sectors respectively rising by 0.59 percent 0.36 percent, and 0.46 percent respectively while the industrials were down by 0.03 percent, mining and oil by 0.90 percent, and property by 0.76 percent.


Citystate Savings spearheaded the gainers column with a 22.64 percent surge closing at P8.45, up by P1.56, Nihao Minerals rose 11.35 percent or 16 centavos to P1.57, and Ever Gotesco advanced by 0.016 centavos or 8.89 percent to P0.0196.

There were 110 gainers against 88 losers with 48 shares unchanged on a value turnover of P5.918 billion, with net foreign buying computed at P1.065 billion, including a block sale of SM Prime worth P684 million out of total trades of P945 million, the shares down by 40 centavos to P37.


If the block sale was excluded from foreign buying and made a part of the selling, the net foreign buying would have amounted to P380 million.


Ayala Energy was the second most active stock with trades of P439 million as it advanced by 24 centavos to P7.78, while Ayala Land, with P39 million in foreign buying, still lost 10 centavos to P36.40.

Globe was supported by locals, going up by P29 to P1,840 even with P63 million in foreign selling out of its P137 million trades.


PLDT and Converge also went up together with Dito CME. PLDT was up by P10 to P1,328, Converge by 59 centavos to P20.35 and Dito by 15 centavos to P9.90.


Jollibee Foods also rose by 20 centavos to P194 helped by foreign buying of P57 million out of its transactions worth P111 million.


Market bellwether SM Investments went up by P2 to 1,000 and had foreign buying of P71 million, while Monde posted a 30 centavo gain to P13.40. BDO Unibank was up by P1.80 to P107. PNB gained 35 centavos to P23.
