PSE Index Up on Bargain Hunting

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rose Thursday on bargain hunting, climbing early in the session but cooling down at the close to 5,990.00 points for a gain of 30.06 points, or 0.50 percent.

Four of the sub-indices advanced: Financials posted the biggest rise at 1.41 percent, followed by Services, Industrial, and Holding Firms, which increased by 0.84 percent, 0.52 percent, and 0.02 percent, respectively.
Property declined by 1.12 percent, while Mining and Oil lost 0.65 percent.
Universal Robina, up 2.44 percent to ₱63, and ACEN Corp., which climbed 11.62 percent to ₱2.69, together with Meralco’s 0.25 percent increase to ₱594, helped offset losses in Jollibee Foods, down 0.56 percent to ₱179, and Maynilad, down 0.12 percent to ₱16.18.
BDO Unibank was the most active stock, with ₱971 million in trades as it surged 2.35 percent to ₱122.
Also contributing to the rise in the Financials sector were Citystate Savings, which soared 25.68 percent to ₱19.48, and Bank of PI, up 2.02 percent to ₱116.
Market bellwether SM Investments was unchanged at ₱700, while ICTSI, up 1.67 percent to ₱608, helped offset losses in gaming stocks DigiPlus, lower by 1.55 percent to ₱19, and Bloomberry, down 0.76 percent to ₱2.60.
The index hit an intra-day high of 6,011.68 points, but the market failed to sustain the momentum amid net foreign selling of ₱761 million, with foreign buying at ₱3.34 billion and foreign selling at ₱4.11 billion.
Among the day’s positive movers were Axelum, up 5.88 percent to ₱2.16, and Cebu Air, which rose 3.11 percent to ₱33.15.
Value turnover reached ₱7.055 billion, with 100 gainers, 103 losers, and 62 unchanged, including Security Bank, Union Bank, San Miguel, ABA Ore, and Robinsons Land.
Among the gainers were Ayala Land, Monde Nissin, GT Capital, JG Summit, EastWest, PSE, Megawide, LT Group, ABS-CBN, Wilcon Depot, Aboitiz Power, Puregold, and Filinvest Land.
Among the losers were China Bank, PNB, Semirara Mining, SPNEC, SM Prime, AREIT, Vista Land, Globe Telecom, PLDT, Emperador, Ginebra, Top Line, and DMCI Holdings.
