PSE SHAKES OFF LETHARGIC START, RISES

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index today shook off its lethargic start and at mid-point in trading saw its financials recovering, followed later by the property sector and, afterwards services to finish the day at its highest level at 7071.50 points, up by 25.67 points or 0.36 percent.

BDO Unibank led the charge of the financial sector with an 80 centavo rise to P111.90, boosted by foreign buys of P161 billion, emerging second most active with trades of P1.015 billion.


Bank of PI also got P14 million in foreign buys as it gained P2.20 to P83.20, while Metrobank finished the day ahead by P1.60 to P48.20.


EastWest lost 12 centavos to P10.08, while Security Bank was unchanged at P133.50.


Value turnover reached P9.114 billion with net foreign selling amounting to P311 million with 92 shares posting gains, 129 losses and 39 shares unchanged.


Foreign selling hit P2.974 billion, while foreign buying amounted to P2.66 billion.


The industrial was down 0.80 percent, holding firms, 0.16 percent, and mining and oil, down 1.17 percent.


Second liner, Apollo Global was the day's most active with P1.117 billion in trades as it dropped by P0.04 to P0.28, while other second liners, Basic Energy and Abra Mining were down P0.23 to P1.05 and P0.0005 to P0.0071, with trades of P552 million and P518 million, respectively.


Market darling MerryMart rose by 42 centavos P7.85, while food giant Jollibee Foods continued it's slide to close a peso less at P185.70, with foreign selling hitting P51 million.


PLDT, boosted by foreign buying of P13 million, went up by P35 to P1,425; while Globe Telecom, which came under foreign selling pressure of P41 million, lost P16 to P2,044.


Market bellwether SM Investments went up by P3 to P1,038, while Converge gained 34 centavos to P15.90.


Ayala Land rose to P40, up 55 centavos, while Ayala Energy lost a centavo to P6.79. Dito CME dropped by 14 centavos to P12.16, while SM Prime advanced 60 centavos to P38.20.
