U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a one-hour phone call, during which the Russian leader outlined his uncompromising stance on the war in Ukraine, Charlie Bradley, Connor Eilson, Max Parry, and Matthew Dooley reported for the UK’s Express.

According to Reuters, Putin insisted that Russia “will achieve its goal of removing the root issues that led to the Ukraine conflict” and “will not step back from its goals.” Trump appeared to distance the U.S. from any future role in peace negotiations, with Russia emphasizing that “Ukraine peace talks are between Moscow and Kyiv.”
The call came shortly after a top U.S. defense official halted arms shipments to Ukraine—equipment that had previously helped repel Russian attacks—reportedly under instructions from the White House.
