Defense Secretary John Healey is expected to announce the agreement during a visit to Rolls-Royce's nuclear reactor production facility in Derby. The eight-year contract, dubbed "Unity," aims to enhance the efficiency and environmental sustainability of reactor design, manufacturing, and support services.
The deal is projected to create over 1,000 new jobs in the UK and safeguard an additional 4,000 positions.
The government stated that the agreement would streamline previous contracts, introduce cost-saving incentives, and provide more efficient delivery, leading to an estimated savings of £400 million.
In addition to supporting the UK Royal Navy's current submarine fleet, the Unity program will fund the construction and commissioning of new Dreadnought Class submarines and initiate contracts under the Aukus defense alliance.
