Russia will start delivering the drug Avifavir on June 11 to control the COVID-19 infection, Tass reported on May 31, 2020 as it quoted a report by Izvestiya newspaper, which ran a story citing the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) on May 31, 2020.

Tass said the drug, 18,000 packs of which have been manufactured, will not be released for free and it will only be used under the supervision by medical workers, the newspaper said. "It will be supposedly supplied to Russian hospitals on June 11, 2020, RDIF noted," the newspaper reported.

By doing so, Russia has beaten China, in having an anti-COVID-19 vaccine by September 2020. Cuba has also marketed a medicine to quickly eliminate the virus among the elderly.

"Process capabilities enable producing 60,000 packs per month and 720,000 packs per year," Izvestiya said, citing a RDIF spokesperson. Avifavir has got an approval from the Russian Healthcare Ministry and was included into the state register of drugs. #COVID19
